In this article we’ve asked the visual designer of 158 to describe the business goal of his design for napazari.com .
The newest project of 158 visual design passed through several redesign stages. First requirement was that the website will be visited by people looking for cheap prices. That implied design emphasizing on many products without abundance of photos. This was one of the reasons why I choose a design showing the logo under the menu and displaying random items. My original version included a rotating large images of the items, but later I’ve decided that the combination of one large and several smaller images will help to optimize space. Second group of images I’ve chosen to be at the bottom of the site. So when a user visits the page, he/she will not be cluttered with unnecessary pictures without even knowing why actually sees them at this point. That imposed placing the website mission between the top and bottom. Choice of colors: gray scale is the standard for online stores, so I started from there, but later I’ve added another color - green. Since I had used a dark gray in contrast with white and light gray color, bright green helped distinguishing the menu from the grey main parts.
Another main requirement for the visual design was to make the webstie look simple. It was ment to be a website for people searching for cheaper products, who don't need too much expensive and typical online store look.
At the end was a social website for hepling poor people to find the best deal on the market and therefore it needed to look cheap.
